Setting the standards
Having listened to our customers concerns on the issue of faulty cable, we have produced a range of materials which we hope will help when purchasing and installing cable.
We hope this will raise awareness of some of the pitfalls presented by this dangerous activity. By following the simple guidelines when purchasing cable you can reduce the chances of being affected.

At-a-glance leaflet
Our Setting the Standards leaflet provides at-a-glance information to help you through the purchasing process and avoid the dangers of buying non-approved cable.
It lists some important factors to look out for when ordering and purchasing cable.
Latest statistics show that some 20 per cent of all cable products in the supply chain are non-approved, unsafe or counterfeit and that there are five deaths per year resulting from faulty electric wires and cables in England.
Check It card
Make sure that the cable you have ordered has been delivered. Any cable not carrying appropriate cable markings should not be installed as it would be difficult to trace without the correct markings.
This handy-sized credit card style list is useful for carrying round on or off site and acts as a reminder when ordering and taking delivery of cable.
Cable reels and boxes
To help our customers clarify what they should be looking out for in terms of cable markings, we have also supplied a cable marking guide on our boxes and cable reels.
This acts as a reminder of the key elements of the cable when it is delivered and is provided on all of our boxes and cable reels as a guideline.
