  • College turns to Firetec - The York College of Technology is operational using a new sophisticated alarm system with cabling supplied by AEI Cables. A networked master fire alarm system ensures information is supplied to and from other control panels for different areas of the building. Using Standard Firetec, the system can also open doors which are normally locked on a swipe card system for those who may be in the building in the event of fire. More...


  • Wiring Regs ‘may broaden horizons’ - New legislation over wiring regulations in the UK may expand the horizons of electrical contractors, it has been claimed. The 17th Edition of the IEE Wiring Regulations will ensure that the UK aligns with the rest of Europe in terms of safety, according to the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). More...


  • Student refurbishment gets upgrade - A major university has chosen AEI’s Enhanced Firetec cabling for the fire alarm system in the refurbishment of part of its site. The system will provide power for the system in the student accommodation blocks, dining areas and sports halls at the HUB T Project, Sheffield University. More...


  • Grammar School turns to AEI for fire alarm system upgrade - Wirral Grammar School for Boys has turned to AEI Cables’ fire performance Standard Firetec cables for security of power supply for its revamped fire alarm system. Distribution is through GA Nicholas, Kirkby, part of Edmundson Electrical Ltd.


  • Diversity can pay off says CBI - Firms that take steps to improve diversity in the workplace earn real business benefits, a joint report from the CBI employers organisation and the Trades Union Congress suggests.   • Industry Forum looks at Regs - The Electrical Safety Council is hosting an all industry forum comprising technical experts from 11 professional and trade organisations to provide consensus opinion on the application of the 17th Edition of the IEE Wiring Regulations. The resulting electrical installation guidance is being made freely available to all on the Electrical Safety Council’s website www.esc.org.uk/forum
