 St James's Hospital, Leeds Hospital chooses Mineral Insulated Cable - A major hospital has used Mineral Insulated Cable (MIC) from AEI Cables to ensure security of power and the system loop wiring to its new state-of-the-art fire alarm system. The MIC was installed in the sophisticated system at St James's University Hospital, Leeds, to bring together 26 alarm panels, providing central monitoring across the site. - 2012 Olympics gets dispute panel - A panel has been set up to resolve any disputes regarding the building of the venues for the London Olympics in 2012. The Independent Dispute Avoidance Panel (IDAP) was established so that the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) and its contractors can work together, tackling any issues before they become long-standing disputes.  The new British Library building British Library project protects storage facility - The British Library has chosen Mineral Insulated Cable (MIC) from AEI Cables to ensure security of power to its new state-of-the-art book storage facility containing important documents. The MIC is being installed in the new £13.2million automated warehouse at Boston Spa, West Yorkshire, for critical electrical systems including emergency lighting, fire alarms systems and some mechanical and control panels. - Construction industry hit by slowdown - Growth in the construction industry has been negatively affected by the slowdown in the UK property market.This is according to the latest construction market survey from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (Rics), which found that growth in sector workloads dropped to its lowest level in more than ten years in the first quarter of 2008.  Graham Turner Graham reaches new landmark - AEI Cables’ National Sales Manager Graham Turner has completed 30 years with the company this month. Graham started in April 1978 in the Leeds Branch as a telephone sales clerk. He has also been National Manager for Fire performance cables and took up his current role in 1999.
- Contractors launch new initiative on rogue installers - A new initiative has been agreed between Part P Competent Person Schemes, including NICEIC, and local authorities to find a more effective way of dealing with rogue installers. Where NICEIC registered installers become aware of works being carried out by unregistered Part P installers, they can now pass that information directly to NICEIC. More...

- Skills shortage ‘down to employers’ - Employers' reluctance to offer apprenticeships may be contributing to the skills shortage in the UK, it has been claimed. According to Brian Berry, director of external affairs for the Federation of Master Builders, the problem is not a lack of interest in undertaking an apprenticeship, but a lack of employers willing to provide them.
