 Outside the British Embassy Japan trip inspires new thinking - AEI Cables’ Peter Baynham went to Japan to observe some examples of manufacturing ‘Best Practice’ for himself as part of the company’s continuous improvement initiative.The visit included five lectures, 15 factory visits and two workshop sessions, with briefing sessions at the British Embassy in Tokyo and other office based sessions held at the Japanese Automotive Manufacturers’ Association. - Housebuilders cutting prices - Leading house builders including Taylor Wimpey, Barratt and David Wilson Homes have advised their sub-contractors and suppliers that they intend to reduce prices/contract sums by between three and fiver per cent. The intention is to apply deductions to both existing contracts as well as future tenders. ECA members are advised that these deductions should not be applied to payments on existing contracts. - Wiring Regs leaps up the charts - The 17th Edition of the Wiring Regulations, published in January of this year, has reached 31st position in Amazon’s 50 best sellers and is the highest placed professional publication to date. Geoff Cronshaw, IET’s Chief Engineer, is frequently in demand to lecture on the regulations and has recently returned from Hong Kong where he was invited by the Government to give just such a presentation to over 400 delegates. - CIBSE energy assessors’ scheme approved - The Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) is proud to announce that CIBSE Certification's application to provide an accredited Energy Assessors scheme has been approved by the Department for Communities and Local Government (CLG). - 17th Edition Wiring Regulations, 5 March 2008 – Seminar, University of Teeside, Middlesborough - The new regulations come into force in July 2008 and all users of the 16th edition will benefit from this introduction to the new rules by an expert from IET HQ. Since this is such an important talk for contractors and engineers, the talk will be given twice, in the afternoon and evening, to help you to work around your business commitments.
- Developments in Power System Protection – conference, 17/19 March 2008, Crowne Plaza Hotel, Glasgow - The conference is aimed at engineers involved in the application, ownership, management, design and development of power system protection and control systems.
